Newborn Night Nurse

Q: Do you provide any newborn education?

YES! Upon registering with us, you’ll have the opportunity to schedule a 1 on 1 complimentary 30-minute phone or virtual consultation with our Head of Nursing, Chrissy Tanner. Chrissy, a highly experienced BSN, RN, and CPN, is well-versed in all aspects of newborn care. If you would like any additional private consultations, it's just $40 a session!

Q: Will I have the same night nurse every time?

Continuity of care is ALWAYS our number #1 goal. For most of our night nurses, they are still working in the hospital weekly, and this is their second job. We will do our best to keep your nurse rotation to a minimal, so you see familiar faces as much as possible!

Q: What qualifications do you require of your RN's?

All of our nurses have experience in one of the following departments- Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby Postpartum, PEDS, & NICU. They have their BLS, maintain their CPR certification and have passed a criminal background check. Most of our nurses have one of the following certifications- PEARS, PALS, or NRP. The owner personally interviews each RN and ensures each one is a strong fit for the company.

Q: How far in advance should I plan to schedule?

The more notice the better. We will do our best to accommodate last minute requests but our calendar fills quickly.

Q: What are the night nurse hours?

9pm OR 10pm (the family picks the start time) until 6am. The nurse will meet you 15 minutes early at your home for their first shift to get acquainted with you and so you can show them where everything is, the baby's feeding schedule, sleep set up, etc.

Q: Do the nurses stay awake the entire time?

Yes, our nurses are required to stay awake the entire duration of their shift. During our consultation call, we will ask the family where they prefer the nurse to sit while the baby sleeps.

Q: Do the nurses do any laundry during their shift?

Your nurse can fold baby/kid laundry. They will not fold adult laundry. You can leave out the clean baby/kid laundry and let the nurse know where you'd like them to be put once they are folded.

Q: I am breastfeeding, how does that work with a night nurse?

Our goal is to let mom sleep as much as possible, especially in the first few weeks, post-delivery! The night nurse can bring baby to you each time you are ready to breastfeed. We will talk with you what that will look like- if you prefer the nurse to call you or knock on the door when it is time for baby's feeding. After the feeding, the nurse will take care of putting the baby back to sleep. Mom can also pump breastmilk and let the nurse bottle feed the baby as well.

Q: I plan on formula feeding, how does that work with a night nurse?

Your nurse will happily wash and prepare bottles for their shift and future feedings.

Q: Will the nurse bathe the baby?

Our nurses will not bathe the baby. They are strictly there for baby's care, feedings and putting baby back to sleep.

Q: How do I pay for services?

We pay our nurses directly and you will be charged the card on file weekly for services used. You will receive a copy of the receipt.

Q: Do you offer daytime newborn care as well?

We typically offer nighttime care but will do our best to accommodate your needs! Just send us a request.

Q: Do the nurses keep a log of all feedings, diaper changes, etc?

Yes. Once you register with us and we put you on the schedule, we will mail you a journal that will be used as a night log for each nurse to leave and for you to review. They will log all feedings, diaper changes, hours baby woke up and back down to sleep, and temperament of baby. Your nurse will handle all the tasks in between feedings such as waking, diaper changes, settling, soothing, and attending to any other needs your baby may have and will log accordingly.

Q: We have a dog, can they be out while the nurse is here?

Although most of our nurses are dog friendly and have dogs of their own, we never know how a dog is going to react when a new baby is brought home and there is a 'stranger' in the house. For liability and safety purposes, we ask that you put your beloved fur baby in a room away from the night nurse.

Q: Do the nurses administer any medication?

No, the nurses do not administer any medication. The nurses can assist with medical interventions like diaper cream, topical medications administered by baby's doctor, and daily VD drops, but they do not provide assessments, vital sign diagnostics, wound care, or any other procedure considered medical care.

Q: I have twins, is there anything specific I need to provide the night nurse with?

During our consultation call, we will ask how you feed your twins and what the protocol is with their sleeping plans. Your nurse will receive detailed information about your twin's routines and adhere to it while they are on shift.

Q: Do you require a deposit?

Yes, there is a $199 registration one-time fee that will get your family on our schedule.
